The pinnacle of purity, titanium iodide, boasts impurity levels below 0.1%, offering high plasticity despite its low strength. Industrial pure titanium, at 99.5% purity, features a density of ρ=4.5g/cm3, melts at 1725oC, and has a thermal conductivity of λ=15.24W/(m.K). Its tensile strength is σb=539MPa, with an elongation of δ=25% and section shrinkage of ψ=25%. The elastic modulus is E=1.078×105MPa, and its hardness stands at HB195.Advantages of Titanium Alloys Titanium alloys present a myriad of outstanding benefits when compared to other metallic materials:These alloys boast an exceptional strength-to-density ratio (tensile strength/density), with tensile strengths ranging impressively between 100 to 140kgf/mm2, all while retaining a mere 60% of the density found in steel.Even at elevated temperatures, these alloys maintain remarkable strength, outperforming aluminum alloys. They consistently deliver the necessary strength at higher temperatures, ensuring reliable performance over extended periods within the 450 ~ 500 °C range.Titanium's corrosion resistance is nothing short of extraordinary. It develops a uniform, robust oxide film on its surface, defending against a wide array of media. In oxidizing and neutral environments, titanium's corrosion resistance is superb, further amplified in seawater, wet chlorine gas, and chloride solutions. However, its performance in reducing environments, such as hydrochloric acid, is comparatively less robust.Titanium alloys, notably with minimal gap elements like TA7, exhibit outstanding low-temperature performance, retaining impressive plasticity even at a frigid -253°C.These alloys are distinguished by a low elastic modulus, reduced thermal conductivity, and non-ferromagnetic properties, making them unique.Exemplary Hardness.Although titanium alloys possess limited stamping capabilities, their thermoplasticity remains notably commendable.The heat treatment process can be finely tuned to achieve diverse phase compositions and microstructures in heat-treated titanium alloys. Typically, a refined equiaxial structure offers commendable plasticity, thermal stability, and fatigue strength. In contrast, an acicular structure provides impressive enduring strength, creep strength, and fracture toughness. A strategic combination of equiaxed and acicular structures ensures a balance of attributes, delivering comprehensive advantages.Common heat treatment approaches include annealing, solution treatment, and aging. Annealing is crucial for eliminating internal stresses, enhancing plasticity, and stabilizing the structure to obtain superior comprehensive properties. Generally, the annealing temperature for α alloy and (α+β) alloy is set 120-200oC below the (α+β) -→ β phase transformation point. Solution and aging treatment involve rapid cooling from a high-temperature zone to form martensitic α 'phase and metastable β phase. These metastable phases then decompose in an intermediate temperature zone, forming α phase or compounds and other minor dispersed second-phase particles, thereby fortifying the alloy. For (alpha + beta) alloys, quenching occurs 40-100oC below the alpha + beta) -- - > beta phase transition point, whereas metastable beta alloys quench 40-80oC above this point. The typical aging treatment temperature spans from 450-550oC.
