Pure tantalum, which is annealed, has a Vickers hardness of just 140 hv, reflecting its low hardness and oxygen content dependency. Ranking fifth in melting point among elemental substances at an impressive 2995°C, tantalum is only surpassed by carbon, tungsten, rhenium, and osmium. Notably malleable, tantalum can be drawn into extremely thin wires and exhibits a minor coefficient of thermal expansion, expanding merely 6.6 parts per million per degree Celsius. With superior toughness, even outpacing copper, tantalum is a material of exceptional resilience.Primarily found in tantalite and often coexisting with niobium, tantalum is moderately hard yet highly ductile, allowing it to be drawn into fine wire or thin foil.
