Despite its impressively high melting point of 2995°C—making it the fifth highest among all elements—tantalum has a relatively low hardness, with a Vickers hardness of just 140 hv when annealed. This metal is highly malleable, allowing it to be drawn into thin wires. Additionally, it has an exceptionally low coefficient of thermal expansion, expanding only 6.6 parts per million per degree Celsius.
