Product DescriptionProduct Description DOM tubing, or Drawn Over Mandrel tubing, is a high-strength steel tube manufactured using a specific cold-drawing process. It's not a type of steel, but rather a method that refines pre-existing electric resistance welded (ERW) tubing. This process involves pulling a steel tube through a die and over a mandrel, resulting in a tube with precise dimensions, smooth surfaces, and enhanced mechanical properties. DOM tube may also be thermally treated after cold drawing to customize mechanical properties, improve machinability, and enhance toughness.Introduction to DOM tubeadvantages of DOM tubing DOM tubing is produced from electric resistance welded (ERW) tubes, often referred to as "mother tubes," which are altered into their final shape through a cold drawing process. Before drawing, the mother tubes undergo a phosphate bath to remove scale and add lubricity, ensuring the longevity of the dies during the drawing process. DOM tubing is typically made to ASTM A513 Type 5 standards. European standards, such as 10305-2, may also be applicable. Among the more common DOM round tube grades are 1020 and 1026. While DOM tubing starts as welded tubing, the drawing process makes the weld seam nearly undetectable, resulting in a seamless appearance and strong weld.
