Plasma surface treatment uses a directed ionized gas jet to functionalize the outer layer of a cable or wire as it is produced. The energetic plasma "activates" the surface (breaking bonds, cleaning off contaminants) so that inks or adhesive will wet out and form permanent bonds. In practice, treating a moving wire or extrusion with plasma yields a more wettable and reactive surface layer that is ideal for printing, overmolding, or bonding.
