Large pieces of solids should only be crushed, not pounded with a pestle, as this will damage the mortar and pestle or spill solids out. Explosive materials should only be lightly crushed, not ground. To grind substances that are corrosive to the skin, cover the mortar with a thick paper or plastic sheet, then make a hole in the center, insert a pestle and grind again. The amount of solids in the mortar should not exceed one third of its volume. 3. The mortar cannot be heated. Do not dry it in the electric oven. 4. Wash mortar with water first, and acid-resistant mortar can be washed with dilute hydrochloric acid. A small amount of salt can be put into a mortar when there is a substance that is difficult to wash.
