Product Description Product DescriptionIntroductionIn the oil and gas industry, the two most important nickel alloys are Inconel 625 and Incoloy 825. lncoloy 825 is an austenitic nickel-iron-chromium-molybdenum-copper alloy containing high levels of chromium, nickel, copper and molybdenum to provide high levels of corrosion resistance to both moderately oxidizing and moderately reducing environments. This balance of alloying elements grants this alloy exceptional resistance to both chloride stress corrosion cracking, as well as crevice corrosion and general corrosion. It is the high level of nickel in combination with the amount of molybdenum and copper in this nickel alloy produces substantially improved corrosion resistance in a corrosive environment such as reducing environments compared to stainless steel. The addition of titanium in this alloy also helps to stabilize the alloy against intergranular corrosion. Chloride stress corrosion cracking is a type of localised intergranular corrosion on materials that are put under tensile strength, in high temperatures and in an environment that includes oxygen and chloride ions such as seawater. As an austenitic, nickel alloy, the material is ductile over a wide range of temperatures from cryogenic to well in excess of 1000 °F (538 °C). Fabricability is typical for a nickel alloy, with the material readily formable and weldable by a variety of techniques.CompositionChemical composition of Incoloy Alloy 825 (ASTM B163 - Heat exchanger tube)Element%Nickel35.0-46.0Chromium19.5-23.5Molybdenum2.5-3.5Copper1.5-3.0Titanium0.6-1.2Iron22.0min(~33%)Carbon0.05maxManganese1.0%Sulfur0.03maxSilicon0.5maxAluminium0.2max Grade SpecificationGradeUNSDINENAMSASTMGBIncoloy 825N08825NiCr21MoNr 2.4858 ASTM B425BS NA16 CharacteristicCorrosion ResistanceThe outstanding property of Incoloy 825 is its corrosion resistance. In reducing & oxidising conditions, Incoloy 825 resists general corrosion, pitting & crevice corrosion, intergranular corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. It is particularly useful in sulphuric & phosphoric acids, sulphur containing flue gases, sour gas and oil wells and sea water.Pitting ResistanceThe chromium and molybdenum content of Incoloy? alloy 825 provides a high level of resistance to chloride pitting. For this reason the alloy can be utilized in high chloride environments such as seawater. It can be used primarily in applications where some pitting can be tolerated. It is superior to conventional stainless steels such as 316L, however, in seawater applications Incoloy? alloy 825 does not provide the same levels of resistance as SSC-6MO (UNS N08367) or Alloy 625 (UNS N06625). Hot working should be in the range 870 - 1180°C, finishing at 870 - 980°C. For maximum corrosion resistance hot worked parts should be stabilise annealed before use. The alloy is easier to cold form than stainless steels.MachinabilityIncoloy 825 is classed as a 'C' alloy, and is reasonably easy to machine.WeldingThe alloy is readily weldable by the normal processes (GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), SMAW (manual), SAW). The joint must be clean to avoid contamination of the weld pool.Heat TreatmentIncoloy 825 is stabilise annealed at 940°C. The softest structure is obtained at 980°C. Sections heavier than sheet, strip and wire should be quenched to avoid sensitisation. Please consult Austral Wright Metals for specific advice on your application.Incoloy 825 StandardsRod, Bar, Wire and Forging StockPlate, Sheet and StripPipe & TubeASTM B425ASTM B564ASTM B424ASTM B906ASTM B163ASTM B423ASTM B704ASTM B705ASTM B751ASTM B775ASTM B829ApplicationsChemical processingPollution controlCalorifiersOil and gas recoveryHot vessels for food, water, and seawaterAcid productionPickling tank heaters, tanks, and equipmentNuclear fuel reprocessingRadioactive waste handlingMarine exhaust systems surfaceProcessing Main Applications Company Profile Packaging & Shipping FAQ
